For Readers

Read something new. Say what you actually think.

Our readers are ordinary people with long to-be-read piles and strong opinions. That is exactly why authors want to reach them.

Being part of Stories Unite Us means hearing about books early — often long before they find a wider audience — and deciding for yourself whether one is worth your evening.

There is no quota, no scoring system, and no pressure to be kind. The only thing we ask is that you read honestly and speak honestly.

What To Expect

How membership works

You Choose Every Book

We introduce books; you decide whether one interests you. Saying no is always fine.

You Read At Your Own Pace

No deadlines dressed up as opportunities. Reading well takes the time it takes.

Your Opinion Is Your Own

Loved it, hated it, or somewhere in between — we never ask you to soften or shape it.

Your Time Is Recognised

Participating readers receive appreciation for the time they give, not for what they say.

Our Belief

Why We Appreciate Our Readers

“Reading takes time. A reader may spend several hours getting to know an author's characters, ideas, experiences, or story. We believe that time deserves appreciation. Our $25 reader appreciation tip is simply a way of saying thank you for giving a book your time and attention, or, as we like to think of it, treating you to a cup of coffee while you're reading.”

Reader appreciation recognises time and participation only. It is never conditional on leaving a review, on a rating, or on the opinion a reader forms.
